Terms of Use
Last updated: April 30, 2026
1. Who we are
Tutorify ("we", "us", "our") operates the platform available at mytutorify.com that connects students and parents with independent tutors for online lessons. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use Tutorify.
2. Eligibility and accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to register an account in your own name. Parents may create child accounts under their own supervision; the parent remains legally responsible for everything done under those accounts.
- Tutors must complete the verification flow (identity, bank details, qualifications) before they can be paid out. We may request additional documentation at any time.
- One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your password secret and for all activity under your account.
- We may refuse, suspend, or terminate any account for fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful behaviour, with or without notice.
3. Bookings, payments and escrow
- Students request a service and tutors place bids. When a student accepts a bid, a contract is formed directly between the student (or parent) and the tutor — Tutorify is not a party to that contract.
- Payments are collected through Stripe or Paystack and held in escrow until the session is delivered. Funds are released to the tutor's wallet after the session ends and the holding period elapses.
- Tutorify charges a platform fee on each successful payment. The current fee is shown in your dashboard and may change on 30 days' notice.
- Withdrawals are processed to the bank account you verified during onboarding. We may delay or reverse a withdrawal where we suspect fraud, chargeback risk, or a violation of these Terms.
4. Cancellations and refunds
- A session cancelled by either party more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time is fully refunded to the student.
- Cancellations within 24 hours, or no-shows by the student, are non-refundable except where the tutor agrees otherwise.
- If a tutor cancels late or fails to show, the student is fully refunded and the cancellation is recorded against the tutor's reliability rating.
- Refund disputes that the parties cannot resolve directly may be escalated to support@mytutorify.com. Our decision in disputed cases is final.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Take bookings or payments off-platform. All sessions must run through Tutorify so payments, recordings, and dispute handling stay covered.
- Share contact details (phone, email, social handles, bank details) with another user before a contract has been formed, or solicit them to leave the platform.
- Impersonate another person, register with false information, or use the platform to harass, defame, or discriminate against any user.
- Attempt to break, scrape, or interfere with the platform, its security, or its anti-fraud systems.
- Upload illegal, infringing, or malicious content, or content that violates a child's safety.
6. Tutoring content and intellectual property
- Tutors retain ownership of the lesson materials they create. By uploading them to Tutorify, you grant us a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and deliver them to the relevant students.
- Students may use shared materials for their own learning but may not redistribute or resell them.
- The Tutorify name, logo, and platform code are owned by Tutorify and may not be copied without permission.
7. Sessions, recordings and conduct
- Sessions are delivered through our integrated video provider. Sessions involving minors may be recorded for safeguarding purposes; the parent or guardian consents to this recording when they enable a child account.
- Tutors must conduct themselves professionally. Any inappropriate behaviour, particularly toward a minor, will result in immediate suspension and may be reported to law enforcement.
8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
- Tutorify is provided "as is". We do not guarantee specific learning outcomes or the academic quality of any tutor.
- Tutors are independent contractors, not employees of Tutorify. We are not responsible for the conduct of individual users.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the platform is capped at the platform fees you paid us in the 6 months preceding the claim.
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses (lost profits, lost data, lost opportunity, etc.).
9. Termination
You may close your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, regulatory reasons, or prolonged inactivity. On termination, accrued tutor wallet balances will be paid out to the verified bank account on file (less any chargebacks or disputed payments).
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the platform after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any dispute that the parties cannot resolve informally will be settled in the courts of Lagos State.
